Bio:
Dr. Monica Campbell teaches in the licensure areas of Special Education and Elementary Education. Dr. Campbell joins us after teaching at the University of North Carolina Wilmington for four years and Sherrills Ford Elementary School in Catawba County for six years. As a public school teacher, she taught students with mild to moderate exceptionalities in both the inclusive and resource settings.
Her research interests include evidence-based practices for struggling readers, direct instruction, and technology for persons with disabilities. She coauthored the Early Reading Tutor, a one-to-one, 10-minute intervention that has been proven to quickly increase phonemic awareness, alphabetic understanding, decoding skills, identification of high-frequency, irregular words, and fluency with connected text.
